DETONA beat BIG in FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier opener

DETONA won their first match at the FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier in Los Angeles against BIG, 16-11, on Dust2.

DETONA start their run at the FLASHPOINT Global Qualifier with an upset win against BIG to proceed through the upper bracket of Group A where they will face the winner of AVEZ vs. Orgless and fight for a spot in one of the two qualification semi-final matches.

An awkward B defense that saw every player in DETONA frag served to get the Brazilian team ahead on Dust2. BIG were able to buy in the third round after planting in the second, and this time were able to overtake the B site without a problem to tally their first round. Down by one in the sixth round, BIG shoved their way into the B site, but two kills by Filipe "⁠fp1⁠" Caires in the 4vs2 retake evened the map out, 3-3.

The German side then kept the pressure on B and retook the lead after rushing the small site. Rounds went back and forth and the two teams were at a stalemate after ten. After losing an eco, Ismailcan "⁠XANTARES⁠" Dörtkardeş steamrolled his way into B with three SG553 headshots to make it 6-6. The last round of the half tilted the balances in BIG’s favor, who hit the A site cleanly before switching to the defending side, 8-7.

DETONA won the second pistol round with a four-kill round by fp1, who saved the anti-forcebuy with a 1vs2 afterplant clutch on A. DETONA took a 10-8 lead after the anti-eco. The first gun round started with a 2 for 1 trade on long by BIG, but the Brazilian side brought it back as André "⁠tiburci0⁠" Rossetto downed two rotators trying to reach short from mid.

The European team finally won their first round of the half with an A defense and followed it up against a pistol buy. BIG brought it to within one but tiburci0 won an AWP 1vs1 against Florian "⁠syrsoN⁠" Rische to keep his team ahead. From there on out it was the Brazilian team who took the reins and closed the map out, 16-11.
